Le trophée Lady Byng est décerné chaque année au joueur ayant démontré le meilleur esprit sportif ainsi qu'une conduite exemplaire tout en affichant un niveau d'habileté élevé
sur la patinoire.

Le gagnant est désigné par un groupe représentant l'association des chroniqueurs de hockey professionnel à la fin de la saison régulière.

Lady Byng, épouse du gouverneur général du Canada à l'époque, a offert à la Retro Modern Hockey League le trophée qui porte son nom en 1925. Frank Boucher des
Rangers de New York en a été le récipiendaire sept fois en huit ans, si bien qu'il en est devenu le propriétaire en permanence. Lady Byng a offert un autre trophée à la
Retro Modern Hockey League en 1936.

Lady Byng a perdu la vie en 1949 et la Retro Modern Hockey League a depuis continué à décerner ce trophée en sa mémoire.
